Waimea Valley Kalo & Awa Festival // AUG 10
This weekend in Haleʻiwa, Hawaiian experts will gather in a celebration of Kalo and Awa. Workshops will be conducted to learn how to identify the many Kalo varieties as well as the methods by which they are cultivated. Attendees will also be able to taste the Awa that is used ritually in Polynesia as well as various Kalo that will be prepared into poi.
The Kalo and Awa Festival coincides with the commemoration of the acquisition of Waimea Valley by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. Entrance into Waimea Valley will be reduced as part of the day’s celebration:
Visiting adults – $10
keiki and seniors $5
The festival will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All are invited to the free workshops
