The Refuge is 808 Urban’s first physical arts hub, providing a social entrepreneurial platform and collaborative workspace for our community. Here we offer educational workshops, youth skills building mentorships, events and a retail store. This is a safe space for youth of all backgrounds to hang out and talk story with their peers and professional artists, naturally encouraging healthy relationships and collaboration while developing art skills. Our free youth arts workshops, like the Pow Wow x 808 Urban Art Workshop and the Mai’a Project, integrate cultural and social education and require a long-term focused commitment from students. The retail store is a place where business serves a positive social function for bringing awareness to issues through the art we sell. Monthly events like artist benches and family style BBQs encourage community involvement and a place for youth to showcase their skills.
