With MicroFest HNL: National Summit & Learning Exchange right around the corner, stuff June 13th – 18th, find there is the continued need to broaden our reach which in turn will only deepen the dialogue and experience.

A brief synopsis:

(HONOLULU, there HAWAI‘I June 13th -18th 2013)–The Network of Ensemble Theater’s (NET) MicroFest USA initiative is a nation-wide exploration of art and community. In 2012- 13 NET has produced MicroFests in Detroit, MI; Knoxville, TN and Harlan County, KY; New Orleans, LA; and now Honolulu, HI. This National Summit & Learning Exchange is the culmination of the four-part, five-city MicroFest USA: Revitalize, Reconnect, Renew, asking: “How does art impact your community?” From June 13th – 18th the National Summit & Learning Exchange will lead participants on a journey across the island of O‘ahu. Beginning in Honolulu, the ever-changing urban environment will be explored through multiple tracks, bridging the local and national through performances and conversations that address the impact of art and artists in the current revitalization of our islands’ communities. For the second part of the MicroFest experience, we will retreat to the North Shore at Camp Mokule‘ia for reflection and sharing.

Local partners include PA‘I Foundation and the Honolulu Theatre for Youth. On island venues include 808 Urban, Art at Marks Garage, The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, Ke Kula ‘o Smauel M. Kamakau School, Hulau Ku Mana, He Hawai’i Au Farm, and Catholic Charities. Some of our national collectives visiting include LAPD (Los Angeles Poverty Department), Ping Chong + Company, Cornerstone Theater Company, Teatro Campesino,TeAda Production, Strike Anywhere Performance Ensemble, and many others.
